Botox, Xeomin, Dysport

Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are all neuromodulators that temporarily relax the facial muscles in order smooth out moderate-to-severe wrinkles and folds.

What are Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport?

Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are all neuromodulators that temporarily relax the facial muscles to smooth out moderate-to-severe wrinkles and folds. These products can be injected in many areas of the face, including the forehead, around the eyes, and between the brows. Other regions can also be injected, such as in the chin (to prevent an “orange peel” look) and the nose (for bunny lines).

When you make facial expressions, lines, and creases develop. As time passes and your facial muscles repeatedly contract, these temporary creases become permanently etched onto the face. You will still have natural movement in your muscles after the treatment. We will use a precise dosage of Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport so that you will maintain a youthful look.

How do Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport work?

Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport block nerve impulses to the muscles, selectively weakening the muscular contraction. The reduced strength of muscular contraction reduces the wrinkles caused by expression. After several months, the muscles slowly regain their full strength of contraction.

What is the difference between Botox and Xeomin?

Xeomin and Botox are products that address the same target areas of your face; however, there are a few differences. Xeomin is a “naked injectable,” meaning that it is pure, contains no additives, and consists of only one ingredient, botulinum toxin A. With this slightly different manufacturing process, the likelihood of a patient developing resistance to Xeomin is diminished. If you are one of the rare individuals who has developed antibodies to the protein additives in Botox, Xeomin very well may work for you.

What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are very similar, although some patients find that Dysport works much faster (full Dysport results may be seen after 24 hours compared to 72 hours for Botox). While this may be the case, Dysport is diluted differently, and if you are used to a certain amount of Botox units for treatments, you may require a larger number of Dysport units. But Dysport also tends to diffuse more, meaning that it will spread to a broader area after it is injected.

What should I expect during treatments?

During your initial consultation, you will meet with one of our highly skilled, experienced injectors. They will first perform an assessment, which will analyze targeted areas looking at muscle movement and strength. This will help to determine the amount and location of the injections. A series of small shots will be injected into the targeted muscles. A precise amount of product is carefully placed into each site for maximum, lasting results.

The entire procedure takes 10-15 minutes, and you will be able to return to your normal activities immediately. We can also apply a topical anesthetic to your skin to minimize discomfort during your appointment.

What can I expect from the results?

You will begin to feel the effects 2-7 days after the treatment.* The longevity of results depends on three main things: your metabolism, your muscle strength, and how active those muscles are. Some people will metabolize the product very quickly and will, therefore, need injections more often. Similarly, the stronger your muscles are, the more product you will need. Muscles we frequently use, such as the ones around the mouth and eyes, are more active and will need to be injected more often.

Typically, results last a few months.* Because these neuromodulators are temporary, it is best to come in every 3-4 months to maintain optimal results. Do not wait until it completely wears off since there is a synergistic effect.
